The Nobel prizes for Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, and Economics are all awarded by Swedish institutions, but the Nobel Peace Prize is administered in Norway. Nobody really knows why Alfred Nobel chose Norway, which was ruled in union with Sweden at the time of his death. The Norwegian Nobel Committee speculates that, at the time, Norway lacked Sweden's "militaristic traditions."
