Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania meet to warm up ties

Presidents Daniel arap Moi of Kenya and Godfrey L. Binaisa of Uganda arrived here Wednesday for talks with Tanzanian President Julius K. Nyerere in an apparent attempt to patch up the troubled relations among the three former members of the defunct East African Community. The [Word Illegible], in this north Tanzanian town, is the first formal summit among leaders of the community since before dictator Idi Amin seized power in Uganda nearly a decade ago.

The community broke up in 1977 after the financial collapse of East African Airways and the sealing of the Tanzanian-Kenyan border by Dr. Nyerere. Despite a meeting last May between the Tanzanian leader and President Moi, the border has remained shut.
