The Christ heals moodiness
You don't have to be a prisoner of unsettling moods. You can be free from them, because it is your right to be consistently happy and productive. Moodiness is an element of the concept that man is a material animal who has his own sensual mind, which controls him. But this is not the fate of the real man -- that is, man as God made him. Man is not a leaf tossed about on the winds of feeling. He is God's, the divine Mind's, expression, His perpetual spiritual outcome.
Gods is eternal Spirit, the living, creating origin, the Principle of being. He is unmovable; so man is continually and consistently His unmovable child. There are no ups and downs in the divine universe, no unexpected and harmful inputs of stimuli. Mary Baker Eddy n1 defines man as "the compound idea of infinite Spirit; the spiritual image and likeness of God; the full representation of Mind. n2

This spiritual man is you. You can identify yourself with him. God's man is your true being.
Mortal mind, the supposed mentality and environment of the false man, depends for what it calls existence on a concept of separation between man and Mind. This false mentality says that man is material, having nothing to do with Mind, which is Spirit. The view that man has his own mind is an extension of this theory of man's separation from God. This mind seems to conduct its affairs entirely divorced from God. Hence we are apparently without Principle or its inspiration to guide us. We react rather than respond to the world around us.
We can get out of this emotional pattern through strong trust in divine Spirit. A fight with material concepts may be required. But this is the start of progress. When we reach out to God to save us, we realize that He is already herem -- that is, He is alive and All, expressing Himself is His spiritual universe. We realize that we are really His likeness, that we are His constant creation, indissolubly at one with Mind and Spirit. We know that He is the source of inspiration and that we have that inspiration through Christ.
We need the Christ, God's spiritual idea. Christ's role, as brought out in the Bible, is the freeing of prisoners -- prisoners of moods, of disease, of fears, of weaknesses. As God's own manifestation, the Christ brings divine Truth to us. Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah, or Christ, would come "to open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house." n3 Christ Jesus came in fulfillment of this prophecy, and he proved the power of Christ when he brought people out of the prison house of sickness and sin through Christly healing. This power of Christ is present today, present here in human thought, to bring us into the sunlight of spiritual grace and harmony, where we have truly always lived.
n3 Isaiah 42:7.
Depressing moods are not from God, nor are they representative of our true being. We can dispute them on that basis, and Christ will surely come to us with the news that we are and always have been free. We will then find that happiness is not an occasional "high" but rather our normal state. DAILY BIBLE VERSE Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow- citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the lord. . .
