Runcie becomes Archbishop of Canterbury

War hero Robert Runcie, heralded by the trumpets and the pageantry that inspired Chaucer's tales, strode to the Saxon-built throne of St. Augustine Tuesday to become the 102nd Archbishop of Canterbury.

The pomp and circumstance formally enthroned the Archbishop, a decorated tank commander in World War II, as head of the Church of England and leader of the world's 70 million Anglicans.
