Lag in money slows mergers

The merger and acquisition pace has definitely slowed. As a result of the high cost of money and the Federal Reserve Board's admonition to banks to curtail lending for such purposes, mergers dropped 29 percent in the first quarter compared with the same period in 1979, Industry Week magazine reports. This was a 10-year low.
