Polish dissidents continue hunger strike

More than 20 Polish dissidents protesting harassment will remain on a hunger strike in a Warsaw church for another week despite the Saturday night release of Miroslaw Chojecki, head of an unlicensed publishing house, Monitor special correspondent Eric Bourne reports. Mr. Chojecki was arrested in March, allegedly for taking a copying machine from a state publishing house. He had been on hunger strike since April 15 and was being force-fed.

The decision to release Mr. Chojecki is believed to be a gesture to create a better image for Poland in its present anxiety to see detente restored between the Soviet bloc and the West.
