Bill to overhaul trucking is signed by President

President Carter signed a law Tuesday cutting back government regulation of the $41 billion interstate trucking industry. In a Rose Garden ceremony attended by sponsors of the bill, including Sen. Edward Kennedy, Mr. Carter said the law will "eliminate the red tape and senseless overregulation that has hampered the free growth and development" of the trucking industry and save consumers. as much as $8 billion annually in transportation-related costs.
