Grasso, a Carter backer, urges delegate release

Gov. Ella Grasso, one of President Carter's strongest supporters, said Tuesday she had called the White House suggesting the President release his delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Mrs. Grasso said she remained confident Mr. Carter would win if his delegates were released but said his action would heal party wounds developing from a fight over rules binding delegates to a candidate.

Mrs. Grasso said she had not called campaigners for Sen. Edward Kennedy to suggest their candidate also release delegates pledged to him.
