Cuban refugees protest treatment at US center

About 200 Cuban refugees at Fort Indiantown Gap, angry over what they considered mistreatment, threw rocks, bottles, and garbage cans at Army troops and federal guards Tuesday.Yelling in Spanish, "You better get us out of here or we're going to burn this place down!," they rampaged through part of the camp for about half an hour.

The disturbance followed an earlier one in which about 50 of the 5,000 refugees in the camp, angered at the arrest of one of their number, wrecked a mess hall, tore up freezers, and broke windows. Army troops, wearing helmets and shields, sealed off the area in an effort to contain the Cubans.
