NBC votes to extend its president's tenure

In an early show of confidence, NBC's board of directors announced Wednesday that the contract of president Fred Silverman -- who many thought was on his way out -- has been extended from June 8, 1981, when it was due to expire to Dec. 31 , 1982. According to Monitor TV critic Arthur Unger, Mr. Silverman had stated when he first took office that NBC would be in No. 1 position by Christmas 1980. NBC finished last season in third place.
