12 arrested in Philippines in martial-law protest

Twelve people, including an opposition member of Parliament and the manager of a radio station, were arrested in the central Phillippine city of Cbu during a demonstration to mark the eighth anniversary of martial-law rule. The arrests were made as the security forces stepped in to halt a mock funeral procession organized by opposition leaders. No incidents were reported from the capital, where a spate of bombing over the past month had put security forces on full alert. But over the weekend one man was killed in a series of blasts in the southern city of Cotabato, and eight people, four of them soldiers, were killed when a truck was ambushed in a village near Iligan City.
