Political-action committees push hard in Senate races

Common Cause says reports filed with the Federal Election Commission show that in the 18 months ending June 30, Senate candidates received $5.3 million from political-action committees. The activist groups are mostly single-issue efforts that target their funds to support candidates favoring their view or to defeat candidates opposed t it. Common Cause says 25 candidates for the 34 Senate seats at stake each have raised more than $100,000 from the committees.
