Top Democrats who could once feel comfy in their seats in Congress are squirming a little. For the first time in years, Republicans are targeting the seats of normally secure Democratic leaders in the House. The GOP has drawn a head on all top Democrats except Speaker Thomas P. O'Neill Jr., who is called unbeatable.

Rated most vulnerable: majority leader Jim Wright of Texas and majority whip John B. Brademas of Indiana.

The Republican rationale: the leaders "no longer represent the mainstream of thinking in their districts."m
