Two Arab mayors appeal expulsion from West Bank

Two Arab mayors lodged a Supreme Court appeal against their expulsion from the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Prime Minister Menachem Begin refused to allow the mayors of Hebron and Halhul to return to their towns, but said any decision by the high court would be honored. The mayors were expelled in May after six Jews were killed in a Palestinian guerrilla attack. They are now on a hunger strike to protest the military appeal board's upholding of the expulsion. Arab sources said a special meeting of West Bank leaders decided that all mayors and village heads in the territory would resign if the high court failed to overturn the order.
