Former CIA agent pleads guilty to selling secrets

Former CIA agent David Henry Barnett has pleaded guilty to selling American secrets to the Russians in what is believed to be the deepest known Soviet penetration of the CIA. Mr. Barnett agreed to plead guilty to the one-count indictment and to cooperate with a federal investigations of US intelligence leaks. The indictment charged that at clandestine exchanges in Vienna and Jakarta four years ago, Mr. Barnett passed the KGB details of a CIA plan to obtain information on Soviet military operations. Law enforcement sources said he allegedly was paid between $75,000 and $100,000 for selling the secrets to the Soviets.
