Look for US Sen. Jacob Javits to get a key foreign policy post if Reagan is elected. Polls show Javits well behind in his efforts for re-election. Despite his problems, Javits has stepped up efforts to help Reagan. "Ronald Reagan won't forget Jacob Javits," says a Reagan aide.

Even if he loses, Javits could sway the outcome in the New York race for Senate. He is drawing off liberal support that would go to Democrat Elizabeth Holtzman. That has put Republican Alphonse D'Amato out front in the polls.m
