Baghdad Radio issued a communique by the Iraqi armed forces general command that called for volunteers over the age of 65 to help in "the holy war against the enemies of Iraq and the Arab nation." The communique, signed by President Saddam Hussein, asked senior citizens to volunteer to government officials by Nov. 20. The broadcast did not say in what capacity the volunteers would be used.
