Australia wins court order barring book on statecraft
The Australian government won a court order blocking publication of a book containing secrets of the nation's alliance with the United States. The interim injunction by the High Court followed a similar order stopping two newspapers from printing excerpts from the book, "Documents of Australia's Defense and Foreign Policy 1968-14975." That order was the first against the press since the censorship of World War II. Foreign Minister Tony Street defended the injunctions, saying the government acted to preserve national interests, not just to avoid publication of material that could cause embarrassment.
