Big refugee airlift to US being planned in Vietnam

An American staff member of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is in Ho Chi Minh City making preparations for what may become the largest airlift of Vietnamese refugees to the United States since the communist takeover of Vietnam in April 1975. The airlift would involve 1,745 refugees who are seeking political or economic asylum in the US and have applied to the Vietnamese government to leave.
