The US is moving to provide financial aid to victims of Italy's devastating earthquake. SenEdward Kennedy (D) of Massachusetts introduced legislation to give $50 million in relief and rehabilitation assistance, while the administration said it would provide an initial relief fund of $1.5 million. The fund includes 1,000 tents from Defense Department stockpiles in Europe and six military helicopters for reconnaissance operations. US military installations are also providing tractors, other equipment, and personnel.
