Singer Stevie Wonder says public dedication to the ideals of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King can help counter a "resurgence of hatred a bigotry" in the United States. He plans to lead a march in Washington on Dr. King's birthday, Jan. 15, to press for making it a national holiday. He says that, despite the killings of black children in Atlanta and the shooting of black activist Vernon E. Jordan Jr. in Cleveland, "This country is the only one to be the spearhead for showing the rest of the world that peopple really can live in unity and harmony."
