Sakharov hails Argentine who accepts peace medal

Argentine human-rights activist Adolfo Perez Esquivel accepted the 1980 Nobel Peace Prize Dec. 10 in a ceremony highlighted by a message of praise from Andrei Sakharov, the Soviet dissident and 1975 Nobel Peace laureate. The message from Mr. Sakharov, now confirmed to the Soviet City of Gorki, was delivered by the Nobel Committee chairman, John Sanness.

"Your vigorous struggle for justice and the help you have given to people suffering under oppression are cherished by people who live thousands of miles away, in another world," Sakharov said.

Mr. Esquivel founded the Peace and Justice Service, an umbrella organization coordination the human-rights campaign in Latin America.
