The Bahamas' more than 2,000 public school teachers staged the first nationwide teacher strike in the island nation's history, forcing the Education Ministry to shut down the primary and secondary schools. The walkout affects more than 60,000 children, who will have their Christmas holiday extended indefinitely. Spokesmen for both sides said they expect the strike to last several weeks.
