Reagan is criticized for not naming a Hispanic
Hispanic leaders said President elect Ronald Reagan's failure to appoint a Latin to his Cabinet has sent "very negative signals" to the nation's fastest-growing minority. The letter added, "This omission represents a severe setback for the aspirations of the Hispanic community."
At the time of Mr. Reagan's Cabinet selection, most Hispanics had expressed confidence that a Latin would be chosen to head the Departments of Interior, Health and Human Services, or Commerce. Hispanic leaders urged Mr. Reagan to "redouble" efforts to re cruit Hispanics for high-level posts.
