Discover your day!
It was a beautiful Saturday morning, sunshiny and brisk.I thought of all the things I could do: play tennis with a friend, go shopping, browse in my favorite bookstore. The possibilites were endless.
Then I asked myself, What is my purposem today?
I decided it was to love, to be where love was most needed. My standpoint had changed from gettingm to givingm . It really wasn't to see how much pleasure I could get from that day but to discover what I could bring to the day in terms of reflecting divine qualities: the radiance of selflessness, the strength of patience, the brightness of real intelligence -- all qualities reflecting God Himself, infinite Life, Love, Truth.
Mary Baker Eddy N1 gives an interesting concept of "day" in her book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.m Part of the definition reads: "DAY. The irradiance of Life; light, the spiritual idea of Truth and Love." She goes on to tell us what we can expect from this day: "The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded. This unfolding is God's day, and 'there shall be no night there.'" N2

I could see that this spiritual concept was no day of haphazard hours, a disorganized day, wasted or routine. It was a day of divine purpose, full of the light of spiritual order and with no possibility for the intrusion of despair, discouragement, hopelessness, or fear. What a day to look forward to!
Something I hadn't even thought of soon came along. A good friend called to say she had just arrived in town and asked if I could show her around. We spent a fascinating time sightseeing, finishing with dinner at a restaurant I had always wanted to visit. We were able to help each other with ideas in the field we were both working in. And during that full day there were even instances where I was able to show kindness to others besides my friend in just the way it was needed. All of us had been blessed by my seeking divine Love's direction.
Our day can have unlimited possibilities for good. Valuing the day as a spiritual idea takes it out of the realm of chance. We can never be disappointed in divine Love's day, a day designed to bless and heal; a day fashioned for good.
Christ Jesus' days were apparently very active. He taught, preached, healed. How did he get ready for these challenging days? Mark gives a hint: "And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed." N3 At times he prayed all night as well. N4 Could what Jesus did with his days and nights have prepared him for his days following the crucifixion, when he was to prove for us all man's indestructible sonship with God?
n3 Mark 1:35;
n4 See Luke 6:12.
Through exercising scientific, understanding prayer, we can look forward to each day as a good day, as God's day. It can be a day to cherish, to value and appreciate; a day in which to heal and be healed. DAILY BIBLE VERSE One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a th ousand years as one day.
