A strong earthquake that collapsed buildings in towns around Athens killed at least eight people, injured dozens, and forced residents of the capital to sleep outdoors or flee the city. The earthquake, recorded by the Athens Seismological Institute at 6.6 on the open-ended Richter scale, struck T uesday night and was followed by a series of aftershocks.
