Pick of the paperbacks; Literary Landscapes of the British Isles: A Narrative Atlas, by David Daiches and John Flower. New York: Penguin Books. $7.95.

A magnificent book! The reader is awed by the accurate scholarship and demanding work that must have gone into its production. Daiches, author of the two-volume "Critical History of English Literature," is more than competent to take us on a series of visits to author-associated spots. And Flowers has contributed to more than 100 books in the past 35 years, and now through 60 maps and 60 black-and-white illustrations linked to the vivid narrative he shows us the spots.

The Atlas and Gazetteer Section puts dates and places together with 236 writers of importance. This information is also plotted on a sequence of some 475 towns and villages.

Th e book is a fine accomplishment in the field of publication.
