Begin's party comes from behind in poll
Prime Minister Menachem Begin's Likud bloc has overtaken the opposition Labor Party for the first time in the campaign for Israel's June 30 general election, says a public opinion pool. A survey by the Jersalem Post, taken at the end of May, showed that Likud would win 45 seats in the 120-member Knesset as against Labor's 42.
For months polls showed broad dissatisfaction with Likud, but the trend ended about three months ago. The comeback is attributed to Mr. Begin's handling of the Lebanese missile crisis, his strng campaigning, a reduction in income tax, and a series of price cuts on c onsumer goods, especially electrical appliances.
