Rare Siberian crane chick is hatched in captivity

The first Siberian crane to be bred and successfully hatched in captivity is "healty, strong, pecking, and peeping," says George Archibald, of the International Crane Foundation.

The gender of the chick, named Dushenka, Russian for "little loved one," is unknown at present.

There are no more than 150 Siberian cranes left in the world, making it the mos t endangered of the world's 15 crane species.
