Iranian elections ordered July 24 for new president

Iran's three-man presidential council ordered elections for July 24 to replace the ousted President, Abolhassan Bani-Sadr, whose whereabouts remained a mystery after 13 days on the run from his Muslim fundamentalists foes. The council decided that the elections, expected to put a Muslim fundamentalist in the post, would be supervised by the clergy- dominated Council of Guardians.
