The summer of the peas

Sitting in the house I said "I will write a poetry of gardens I will put everything in The center of it shall be an apple tree but everything shall go in the vines the roots the leaf and the branch the green and the gold" I said "I will write cabbages and carrots I will make cinquains red and green cinquains out of all the peppers triolets of the yellow hammers of summer squash and whole strings of haiku of the blue flowers of peas and the green slippers of peas and the short summer of peas" Sitting in the house I said "I will write a poetry of gardens and I did and it was vegetables a prose of vegetables . . . so I got up out of the house and the tiredness of houses and worked all day in the garden the whole b lessed day in the garden hoeing the young poems
