Spaniard snubs wedding in Britain over Gibraltar

Briton's expressed outrage at Spanish King Juan Carlos's decision to boycott the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer over his country's claim to Britain's crown colony of Gibraltar. Parliament will consider a resolution expressing "disgust" at the diplomatic snub, and the King's last-minute decision not to attend was trumpeted on every London newspaper's front page.

"If they are going to treat our royalty like this, we should cease to have anything to do with the Spaniards," said Conservative Party member of Parliament Albert McQuarrie, who introduced the resolution.

Juan Carlos and Queen Sophie reversed their acceptance of invitations when it was announced Charles and Diana would meet the royal yacht Britannia at Gibraltar for their honeymoon cruise . Spain has claimed the British colony for two centuries.
