Another IRA inmate starts hunger strike in Belfast

Another IRA inmate refused breakfast Monday, joining five others on a hunger strike that has already taken 10 lives.The IRA says it has more than 70 volunteers willing to starve themselves to death in support of demands for political-prisoner status.

Meanwhile, reports published in Britain said there was a possibility Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher might meet with Owen Carron, elected to the House of Commons on a platform supporting the hunger strikers. But it was said she would not negotiate the hunger strikers' demands for changes in prison conditions.
