Aides reported as critical of Reagan on hours at job
Some of President Reagan's aides reportedly say his unwillingness to devote enough time to his job has led to several embarrassing situations. Quoting unidentified White House aides, Newsweek magazine said the President spends only two or three hours a day working.
Newsweek said this lack of involvement in the affairs of state has led to such incidents as these: At a meeting of big-city mayors, Mr. Reagan reportedly greeted his own secretary of housing and urban development, Samuel R. Pierce J., as "Mr. Mayor." Rep. Charles Wilson, (D) of Texas told the magazine that when he asked Reagan about a synthetic-fuels program, "He didn't even know what I was talking about."
