GOP governors are split on arms vs. state-aid cuts

The nation's Republican governors are split over whether President Reagan should cut the defense budget or make deeper reductions in federal funds to states.

President Reagan was scheduled to address the Republican Governors' Conference by telephone from Washington Monday night.

Those favoring possible defense cuts were mostly Northern and industrial state governors hit harder by Reagan budget cuts than their more conservative colleagues in Southern and Western states.
