More students, not fewer

Remember those predictions that college enrollments were dropping?

With two-year colleges leading the way, the number of students on American college campuses in the fall of 1981 reached an all-time high.

The National Center for Education Statistics reported for the 50 states and the District of Columbia that an estimated 12,322,000 students enrolled. The figure represents a 1.9 percent rise over the fall of 1980 and is due almost entirely to a substantial gain at two-year colleges.
