Polish police stamp out demonstration in Gdansk

Police clashed with demonstrating youths who tried to attack public buildings in the Baltic port of Gdansk Saturday night, the official Polish news agency PAP reported.

The agency said six civilians and eight policemen were injured, while 205 people were arrested.

It was the first report of street disturbances this year in Poland, where the situation has been generally calm since a series of clashes in Gdansk and the southern Silesian industrial belt soon after martial law was imposed December 13 .
