S. African National Party expels 10 over race issue
Ten members of Parliament were expelled from the governing National Party because of their refusal to back Prime Minister Pieter Botha's policy of giving greater political power to nonwhites. Four members of the Transvaal provincial administration also were expelled from the party at a meeting of the province's executive committee.
The expulsions followed a breakaway by rightists led by Andries Treurnicht, former state administration minister, in which sixteen rebel members of Parliament were expelled from the party.
Mr. Treurnicht announced he would hold a meeting of rebel supporters Saturday with the intention of forming a new party.
