Reagan welcomes Italian; Dozier kidnappers guilty

In White House ceremonies honoring visiting Italian President Sandro Pertini, President Reagan thanked the Italian government for its rescue of kidnapped US Army Brig. Gen. James Dozier. Mr. Reagan saluted Italy's ''triumph over evil'' in battling the Red Brigades kidnappers.

Earlier in the day a Verona court found guilty all 17 Red Brigades members involved in the kidnapping, handing out jail sentences totaling more than 300 years.

Antonio Savasta, who led the operation, was sentenced to 16 years and six months in jail. He and five others who turned state's evidence received sharply reduced sentences, while hard-line terrorists received up to 26 years in prison.
