April is as April does

''I'll remember April,'' says the song, but this is ridiculous. At least, outside our window the trees were supposed to be full of finches yesterday; the sidewalk was not supposed to be knee-deep in snow. In these latitudes we're not surprised by a few flakes on the spring flowers. But a blizzard? Somebody's got to be kidding - though obviously not all those weatherpeople who could say they told us so.

What are we to make of all this? Maybe that everything in the world around us should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, in the same week that April turned to December, Einstein's theory of relativity was challenged on the grounds that he thought the sun was round. Einstein should have known that Old Sol is slightly flattened. Folks around here should have known that April is as April does.
