Thatcher warns UN not to trust Soviets' pledge
United Nations, N.Y.
The Soviet Union's pledge never to use nuclear weapons first is undependable, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher told the United Nations General Assembly. She urged resistance to arms control if it damaged the prospects for peace.
Mrs. Thatcher avoided any reference to the war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands, in which some of the most modern weapons were used. The Argentine delegation was absent from the General Assembly hall while Mrs. Thatcher spoke.
