Football strike looms

A strike by National Football League players looks like a stronger possibility all the time. Labor and management have made virtually no progress toward working out their considerable differences as their collective bargaining agreement runs out.

The players have vowed not to walk out of training camps, which begin to open this week, but may do so once the season starts if they don't get what they want , which is 55 percent of the gross revenues. The owners claim this would make the players business partners.

Many players have indicated a willingness to hit the picket lines, possibly encouraged by what happened in baseball last season. This may dishearten serious fans, but all is not lost. The new United States Football League has scheduled its inaugural season to begin in March 1983.
