Hijacker surrenders in northern India
The hijacker of an Indian airlines plane, which was refused permission to land in Pakistan, surrendered in the north Indian town of Amritsar Wednesday after freeing the 128 passengers and six crew, police sources said.
The plane was commandeered Wednesday morning while on a domestic flight from Delhi to Srinagar after a stop in Amritsar. Airline sources said there were foreign tourists among the passengers. The hijacking came at a crucial time in Indian-Pakistani relations, a week before nonaggression talks are to begin.
