Youngblood makes fast switch

Back in 1947, first baseman Jake Jones of the Chicago White Sox was traded to the Boston Red Sox between games of a doubleheader at Fenway Park. Jones, who seldom hit the long ball, proceeded to wreck his former teammates in the second game by hitting two home runs. You can draw your own comparison, but Joel Youngblood may have topped Jones recently when he became the first major leaguer ever to play on two teams in different cities on the same day. During an afternoon game at Chicago, Youngblood hit a two-run single in the third inning for New York as the Mets beat the Cubs.

Only minutes after his hit, Youngblood was notified that he had been traded to the Montreal Expos. Leaving Wrigley Field immediately, Joel caught a plane to Montreal in time to go to right field for the Expos in the fourth inning and later get a hit against Philadelphia's Steve Carlton, the major league pitching leader with 16 wins.
