British ignore US policy, send turbines to USSR

A Soviet freighter sailed from Glasgow Thursday with six British-built turbines for the Siberian natural gas pipeline, despite a US threat to impose sanctions on the John Brown engineering company.

American sources in London said export sanctions against the company would be announced in Washington within hours of the ship's sailing. America's General Electric Company supplied the rotors and blades.
