Bolivian military rulers to bring back democracy

Bolivian trade union leaders called off a one-day-old general strike after the military government promised to reinstate democracy.

Political parties represented in a Congress elected in 1980, which the military will reinstate, said they would elect Hernan Siles Zuazo, leader of the leftist Popular Democratic Union (UDP), as president.
