Argentine admiral asks for probe into Falklands war

A top Argentine admiral publicly rebelled against the Navy chief and called for an investigation into the Falklands war - a move expected to revive a power struggle within the military government.

Rear Adm. Horacio Zaratiegui, commander of the country's second largest naval base, sent a telegram in reaction to the firing of 17 top Navy officers over Argentina's defeat in the conflict with Britain. It said he could no longer recognize the authority of Navy chief Jorge Anaya or his successor Adm. Ruben Franco. Admiral Zaratiegui was asked to resign Monday.
