Huge bomb explodes in Tehran, killing 60

A truck packed with an estimated 330 pounds of TNT exploded in downtown Tehran, killing 60 people and injuring 700, Tehran Radio reported Saturday.

Interior Minister Hojatolislam Nategh Nouri was quoted as saying a number of foreigners and Iranians were arrested after the blast. A hotel and three passing buses were destroyed by the explosion, which Iranian radio blamed on ''US mercenaries,'' and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini blamed on the Mujahideen guerrilla organization.

Meanwhile, Iraq says it destroyed two enemy naval targets and launched a counterattack against Iranian troops just inside Iraq in the latest flare-up of the Gulf war. Iraq called for and was granted an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the fighting. And Sudan decided to send troops to fight on the Iraqi side.
