US eye on the embassies made easier by new law

A new law making it easier for US intelligence to keep an eye on foreign embassy officials took effect last week.

The law, aimed chiefly at the foreign missions of communist and certain third world nations, gives a new State Department office power to pick maids, butlers, and translators that foreign diplomats can employ; to assign them specific apartments or hotel rooms; and to impose a range of other restrictions.
