Farmers grew enough to feed an estimated 7 billion people last year. Yet one out of four in a population of 4.6 billion still faces starvation or malnutrition.

Today the United Nations will hold a special session on hunger. It follows World Food Week, Saturday's World Food Day, and Sunday's ''walks to feed the hungry'' to raise money for agricultural development work. Kudos to the walkers, their sponsors, and all who in their own ways help match the earth's bounty with those who dwell upon it.
